In general, there are two main benefits generated by driving hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and electric vehicles (EVs), instead of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. One benefit of driving HEVs, PHEVs, and EVs is to save consumers’ fueling costs in a long term. In addition to the other benefit, as a result of using electric as power, all three kinds of electric vehicles could decrease emissions to protect the environment. Therefore, electric vehicle customers could label themselves as green person, and also advocate this great mindset to their friends. For choosing HEV instead of ICE vehicles, there are four costs. The first cost is that consumers suffer the worse performance of HEV than ICE vehicles. Second, higher price of HEV will increase customers’ purchase costs. Third, customers might also bear the limitation of different HEV models. Therefore, the cost of driving HEV instead of ICE vehicle is to sacrifice their preference on fancy models. Fourth, even though HEV could generate electric automatically, recharging is still a time-consuming task. Therefore, HEVs still burn a lot of fuels, which means HEV is not efficient of saving fuels. For choosing PHEV instead of ICE vehicles, there are four costs. First, compared to HEV, the recharging time is less, but still slow. Therefore, customers had to waste time on waiting for completing recharging. Second, customers cannot charge vehicles in the extreme environments, which will incur many inconveniences, and influence their plans. The time cost is considered as the third cost. Customers have to wait for the permission of buying PHEV because of the purchasing limitation in specific areas. Fourth, because customers may not use their PHEVs for 5-10 years, the estimated amount of fuel saving, indicated by vehicle companies, is impossible to reach. Therefore, customers could not only save the indicated fuel costs, but also could suffer the potential cost of buying another new cars.
