‘God knows the future, so God is responsible for humanity’s evil acts.’ Discuss.
It is widely reported that God has the ultimate power to decide and perform an act he desires, this leads us to believe that ultimately he knows everything that can possibly happen. The question many constantly ask is that is that evil is such an imperfect concept so if such a perfect being has the capability of knowing and changing the future then why does evil still exist, this must mean he’s responsible for it.
Supports of this statement are normally those who believe that the idea that a God even exist due to apparent illogical reasoning behind him and his actions. They would say that surely if god did in fact exist then shouldn’t he be held responsible for all the acts of evil in the world, furthermore due to the allegations that God was the creator of the entire world then in that sense it would be logical to believe that he also created evil. They also question the creation of this evil as God is perceived by the Catholic Church as omnibenevolent so surely the production of evil contradicts that belief.
In contrast to this seemingly all Catholics would strongly say that although God is perfect and did create the world, he gave us humans’ free will which means that he has created world for us and has given us total trust to treat it however we like. This would also include the argument that because we mistreated the earth such as Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit which leads to the world becoming imperfect and evil being introduced as punishment.
