Global Warming and the Threat on the Existence of Life on Earth Lise Scott
AIU OnlineAbstract
Global warming is a very complex subject with much debate involved with the subject. Although some people do not see global as a threat to all life on Earth, it is a very serious problem, because of warming temperatures including the melting of the polar ice caps and ice sheets, extreme weather patterns, including tornados and hurricanes. If the human race do not curb the problems of carbon emissions, people run the risk of increasing global warming for future generations. Many people turn a blind eye to the problem thinking that it is not as severe as it is. With the problem of warming the water temperatures of the ocean, that increases severe weather including stronger and more severe hurricanes, tornados, and more droughts and floods. People run the risk of increasing global warming problem for future generations People have the ability to change the problem if all people would start making changes, because this problem will not go away by its self.
Global Warming and the Threat on the Existence of Life on Earth
According to (Gore 2013)”Since Earth in the Balance was released in January 1992, voluminous new scientific research has greatly strengthened our grasp of the basics: global warming is real, it is getting worse rapidly, it is mainly caused by human beings, we need to act now to avoid the worst of its consequences- before it is too late.” P 10.Global warming is a very complex subject with much debate. It has many different causes, but the main cause is from the greenhouse effect, which is accelerating due to carbon emissions. The main cause of carbon emissions is from auto mobiles and manufacturing, which is something that can be changed. If people put their minds to the problem the human race can help stop carbon emission problems. Although some people do not see global warming as a threat to ALL life on Earth it is very serious, because of warming temperatures, including the melting of the polar ice caps and ice sheets, extreme weather patterns, including tornados, hurricanes and droughts.
If the human race does not curb the problem of carbon emissions, people run the risk of increasing the global warming problem for future generations. According to (Robinson 2008),”The majority of scientists today believe there is a connection between temperature rising all over the world and humans burning fossil fuels.” P24. The rising co2 levels causes many problems all over the world and people have to realize what a danger it is to life on earth for future generations and the children of the future. Some people that own businesses do not want to believe it is a real threat, because it would cost the companies too much money to reduce the carbon emissions the factories emit. Tests performed in 1992 show that CO2 levels in the atmosphere show that levels were higher than ever before. The author also states that most people turn a blind eye to the problem, akin to an ostrich putting its head in the sand. As of 2006 a US report states that the Earth is probably experiencing the warmest weather in over one hundred years. NASA released satellite data threat shows the ice sheets in Greenland are very unstable (Gore,2013).With the problem of warming as in with the ice melting and warming water temperature ,which causes new problems of a different level, similar to the domino effect
Due to the greenhouse effect, the polar ice caps are melting at an alarming rate, which causes a new set of problems. This problem can cause flooding, warmer water temperatures, and damage to the eco system, and large amounts of fish and wildlife dying. (Gore, 2013) explains that the oceans absorb CO2 and cause an imbalance in the PH level which raises the acidity in the water. Higher acid levels cause microorganism to die, which different species feed on. p 12 the changing water temperatures also cause the ice caps and ice sheets to melt and add to
