Gifts Essay

About 2,015 years ago Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem under the Star of Bethlehem.
A group of distinguished foreigners, who followed the light of the star, visited Jesus after his birth bearing gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. These people are known as the Magi or the
Three Kings. Although they seem simple to us today, these gifts were considered to be luxuries worthy of a king during that time period. Thousands of years later, we live in a time where technological advancements have brought us farther than any man, woman, or child could ever have imagined during the time of Jesus. Considering our current capabilities, it is fair to ask what three gifts someone would offer the son of God if he were to come into the world today.
If given the opportunity, the first gift I would give him would be a childhood toy. I believe that he would like this gift for a few reasons. First, this is something that he could actually use at a young age. Things like dictionaries or computers would be considered very helpful for someone in his or her older years, but a toy would be something that he could play with and build a personal bond with that would serve him as a reminder of his childhood and of times spent with his family through adulthood.

The second gift I would give him is a metaphor because, despite its practical applications, its main meaning would be something symbolic to set him on his path of righteousness. I would give him some pieces of fruit that would serve as delicious snacks when he is hungry but would also represent the fruit of the spirit. The fruits of the spirit are love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self­control. Despite being the son of God, it would be important for these lessons to be shared with him during his childhood so that he could grow with enough understanding to teach them to the world one day. Also, because this gift goes back to the religious teachings that he spread, this would show that we not only understand and follow his message but also that we are willing to follow in his footsteps by passing the message on. My third gift for baby Jesus would be a world globe. My main reason for this is because the globe, a representation of the planet where the people that he came to save live, would serve as inspiration whenever doing the Lord’s work became very difficult. Seeing the many parts of the world where his message would be spread and knowing that, if he preservers, he can offer them eternal salvation would provide the motivation necessary to make him successful in today’s
world.
