Trade name: Feosol, Apo-Ferrrous sulphate
Indication: iron deficiency anemia, prophylaxis for iron deficiency in pregnancy
Overview of Action: Replaces iron stores needed for red blood cell development, energy and oxygen transport.
Route-Dose-Frequency: Pregnancy. Adult PO 300-600mg/day in divided doses.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity, Ulcerative colitis, Regional enteritis, Hemosiderosis, Hemochromatosis, Peptic ulcer disease, Hemolytic anemia, Cirrhosis.
Maternal Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, epigastric pain, black and red tarry stools
Fetal Effects: no sides’ effects known. For use anytime in human pregnancy, no fetal harm was reported.
Nursing Considerations: Blood studies, iron studies at least monthly. Increase water intakes if constipation occurs. Do not break tab, only swallow.

Generic name: MedroxyProgesterone acetate
Trade name: Depo-provera
Indication: Abnormal uterine bleeding, Secondary Amenohrhea, Prevent endometrial changes associated with estrogen replacement therapy
Overview of Action: Inhibits secretion of pituitary gonadotropins, which prevents follicular maturation, and ovulation. Antineopalstic action against endometrial cancer.
Route-Dose-Frequency: PO- monophasic 2.5 mg daily; Biphasic 5mg days 15-28 of cycle
Contraindications: Pregnancy (X) breast cancer, hypersensitivity, thromboembolic disorder, reproductive cancer. Genital bleeding
Maternal Side Effects: Spontaneous abortion, amenorrhea, cervical erosion, breakthrough bleeding
Fetal Effects: reported association with cardiovascular defects and ambiguous genitalia
Nursing Considerations: weight daily, I/O ratio, hepatic studies, and mental status check. If tolerated dose, use lowest effective dose.

Generic name: Metoclopramide
Trade name: Reglan
Indication: prevention of nausea, vomiting induced by chemo, Radiat, delayed gastric emty, gastro esophageal reflux. The investigational use for hiccups, migraines, lactation induction, lung cancer.
Overview of Action: Enhances response to acethylcholine of tissue in upper GI tract
Route-Dose-Frequency: Adult PO-Lactation induction (off Label) 10 mg bid-tid, May increase to 20-45mg/day in divided doses.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to this drug or procaine or procainamide, seixure disorder, pheochromocytoma, breast cancer ( prolactin dependent), GI obstruction.
Maternal Side Effects: Decreased libido, prolactin secretion, amenorrhea, Galactorrhea.
Fetal Effects: Reglan should be used only if it is clearly needed. reglan appears in breast milk
Nursing Considerations: Administer .5- 1hr before meals for better absorption

Trade name: Micronase
Indication: Type 2 diabetes mellitus
Overview of Action: Causes pancreatic B-cells to release insulin, may improve insulin binding to insulin receptors.
Route-Dose-Frequency: Adult-PO 1.25-5 mg initially then increased to desired response at weekly intervals up to 20mg/day.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to sulphonylureas, juvenile or type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis
Maternal Side Effects: Increased risk of preeclampsia and hypoglycemia
Fetal Effects: Not to be used during pregnancy.
Nursing Considerations: hypoglycemia can occur after meals. For severe hypoglycemia, give IV50W, then IV
