1. Marriage:
a. Define:
i. Marriage is the union of two people sharing their love with each other for the rest of their lives.
b. Positives/negatives
i. Positives about marriage is that it helps couples socially as well as having better health. When people get married they change their moods and better themselves to become more socially acceptable. Marriage creates a bond with the people in each person’s life. A health benefit to being married is that both people can rely on each other to help reduce stress. Also when couples get married they are most likely to join their bank accounts as a result to becoming financially stable. ii. There are as much negatives in marriage as there are positives. A negative thing about marriage is that people become so busy helping each other improve that they forget to care for them and lose themselves. When couples are married sometimes they can begin to take each other for granted. Financially marriage can be negative because taxes are higher.
c. Other areas the affect marriage
i. I have learned that society has various ways of affecting marriage. For example, children, whether couples choose to adopt, have their own, not have any or already have children from a previous relationship society will make sure that it has its opinion about it.
d. Plans for marriage
i. I do have plans to get married one day. For me marriage means a greater respect from my family. In most Hispanic cultures women are not respected as Mrs. than a miss. Marriage for me means more support, financial stability, respect and more family.
2. Deviance:
a. Define:
i. Deviance is a word used to describe those who do not follow the rules properly. People who are deviant are out of the cultural norm and expectations.
b. Positive/negative:
i. A positive about deviance is being able to get out of the cultural normality and focus on something that is affecting citizens. For example, protesting, it is out of societies normal and focuses on something that is affecting a group of people who have broken the rules to be heard. ii. Participating in deviance actions can go so far that it becomes a negative situation. For example, breaking the law would make who committed deviance actions become unlawful.
c. Affected by deviance
i. People who have participated in deviance actions are fairly mistreated by society. When a form of deviance has become corrupt it can result as criminal action. Once someone has been written as a felon society automatically criticizes them.
d. Personal illustration of deviance
i. Deviance to me means more of speaking up for one’s rights then committing serious criminal action. Deviance is not always a bad and sinful thing it can be fun as well. A few years ago I was in class with a student who was a class room clown. One day he joked about teen girls and what he assumed they went through every morning to get ready for school. The next day my class mate showed up to class dressed has a teenage girl. I remember his wardrobe was so hideous but hilarious. Starting with his makeup, he was wearing a long blond wig, blue sparkly eye-shadow, red hot colored lips and this florescent pink colored blush. His mascara was so poorly fixed that he has chunks of it pasted on the top his eyelids and some on the eyebrows. If that’s not enough to get you laughing wait until I tell you about his clothing! He really went all out with a long-sleeve flower printed mini dress matched with fuzzy UGG boots. The best part about it is that he just walks in class with “maximum girl power” as he called it and so femininely says “Hey boys”. He truly took deviance to a whole other level. There was absolutely no one in the class room who was not laughing historically. Everyone took this as a joke and not a way of being a bad deviant boy for not dressing as a “normal” teenage boy.
