Parents know that education is the key to a happy and successful life. . What is

higher education? What role does it play in society? Is it simply a bunch of mental exercises that the society forces their young to go through in order to promote the intellectually superior and weed out the intellectually inferior? The majority of our youth has hated going to school and doing homework. “Elizabeth, you're not going out until you do your homework!” This is a very common saying in households across the country. Attending public schools as children, one remembers learning the basic skills on how to add and subtract, read, and write. As most know each child learns differently, some learn faster than others and some slower. Our public schools have become overcrowded and do not have enough teachers to fit the needs of each student
(Rose). Some students get left behind and are not learning the skills needed to move on to the next level. Once High School is finished, college is the next step if one is willing to spend another four or five years in school. The role of higher education is to further prepare one

mentally, physically, and emotionally in order to pursue goals after college. It is very important to get a good education but it is just as important to learn about oneself and possible tendencies Without education one would believe everything heard because no one would know any better.
Just knowing how to read and write allows people to question what is hear and to stand up for what is believe in. Education begins with being able to read and write but it is higher education that polishes off an individual and prepares them for life. With so many young adults attending higher education facilities it has almost become a necessity to attend college (Zemsky). If you are expecting to get a “good” high paying job out of high school, good luck. This is because there are so many young people attending college that companies do not have to hire anyone without a college degree. Since colleges were established, more and more people have been getting degrees each year. In today's world it has almost become impossible to support oneself at a job that does not require to have a degree. College plays an important role in job security but it also prepares you in ways that cannot be viewed on paper (McGuire). Not only does higher education prepare one mentally, it prepares young people to move out on his or her own and become an individual for the first time in life. Once moved out, it is all on the individual to push oneself and to make smart decisions. In the real world there will not going to be anyone there pushing, so if one decides to slack off he or she will have to face the consequences. The college atmosphere allows people to learn from our mistakes and better themselves as a person. Higher education forces one to grow up and make a decision on how he or she will spend the rest of life. Once decided what career would like to be pursued, colleges allow for one to take classes that are specific in the area interested. Many students these days

have full time employment and or families of their own, so with this flexibility it grants them the opportunity to return to school. Community Colleges schools have a small teacher to student ratio, as well as the ability to provide each student with the needed resources, and have the capabilities to sustain larger classes if needed. The average course is capable of enrolling up to twenty­five to thirty students
