The Blind Side is a 2009 American semi-biographical drama film written and directed by John Lee Hancock. The film took place at Memphis, Tennesse and featured Michael Oher, an offensive lineman who played for the Baltimore Raven of the NFL. For most of his childhood life, 17 year old Oher has been in foster care with different families yet runs away every time he was placed in a new home. His life change when his friend’s father asks Burt Cotton, coach of Wingate Christian School, to help his son and Mike enrol. Impressed by Mike’s size and athleticism, Cotton gets him admitted despite his abysmal academic record. At his new school, Oher was befriended by a boy named Sean Jr. “SJ”. She supported him throughout his education as well as him playing football. Her family also welcomed him in their home and treated him as part of the family to the point of having him in the photo of their family which is sent to their friends and relatives as a holiday greeting. The determination in reaching once goals is seen in the life of Michael, knowing that he did not come to a life where education is available he was still determined to learn and be good at it. He may have struggled to understand what was going on but in the end he was able to reach a GPA of 2.52. Expression of self was also portrayed by Michael; every time he had to say something about a certain matter or person he expresses these through his writings. Although it may not have been published to a paper or article his sentiments was still heard by the professor of the school which empowered them to teach him to learn what they are teaching inside the classroom. Making decision was shown almost by every single person in the film, like Leigh Anne taking risk on welcoming a stranger in their home even with uncertainties still manage to offer shelter for Michael, for her husband Sean to support the decision of his wife had made even if some of their friends might judge them for what they are doing, for their son and
