Value Conflicts
(Hobby Lobby Case)

Hobby Lobby and morning after pill: http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/hobbylobby.asp

What are the competing needs, outlooks, and values?

-Fighting for freedom of religion
-Against emergency contraception, the morning-after pill or the week-after pill.
-Value their Christianity as Christian faith towards the contraception
-Fighting a lawsuit by the Oklahoma City-based chain claims the government mandate is forcing the company's owners "to violate their deeply held religious beliefs under threat of heavy fines, penalties and lawsuits
-Hobby Lobby filed a federal lawsuit challenging that mandate because it included such contraceptives as the morning-after pill and IUDs
-Also has had disagreements with other Christians about their thoughts about contraception pills (it is rights for women’s to have a better life)

With which parts (on each side) do you agree and disagree?
-The owner is really having faith in what he believes
-Fighting for his right at his establishment (1st Amendment)
-May need to do more research on the contraception (they are not abortion)
-Should have had a better way of treating customers with this situation than getting them escorted (maybe have a sign or something so that they would know not to come with having to talk about the contraception pills)
-Not all in with: “Failure to provide the drugs in the company's health insurance plan could lead to fines of up to $1.3 million a day” by the government
-Most people were misleading what he did not want at his establishments which are only the morning after pills and week after pills.

What are some possible solutions to this dilemma? Any way to compromise or have a win/win solution?

-The government could respect his believe and just let him to what he had compromise to
-Everyone should just go to other establishments that sell the Plan B pills and week after pills and stop the controversy

How might this influence you in your future career?

-It shows me that there are a lot of people that have very high beliefs in their faith and I should respect that
-As an educator, most parents and students may do things that are not good to many people of religious backgrounds
-As an educator, have to stand grounds of my rights
-If I do have high beliefs of my religion, nothing wrong with fighting for it if the government or anyone that makes me go against it

Which side would you choose? Why?

-I would choose to be on David Green, the CEO and founder of the Hobby Lobby due to the fact because of how he truly stands for his belief of his religion and is fighting for what he believes. He has had great success in his establishments for quite some time and for the government to try to force him to getting into something that really
