Some businesses now say that no one can smoke cigarettes in any of their offices. Some governments have banned smoking in all public places. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons.

Many firms, public organizations and government offices are imposing restrictions to smoking at work places and public areas. Lately it has somewhat become a trend to blame smoking and smokers. However, although I feel that smoking can be harmful, at the same time I do not completely agree with completely banning smoking. I would also argue that people should have the right to choose whether they want to smoke or not.

Allow me to give a brief overview of the three positive sides of smoking. Firstly, smoking actually helps many of us to relax. For some, it even improves concentration. If somebody is upset because they owe money to someone, or they have to give an important exam, smoking helps to reduce the amount of tension or pressure that an individual feels. In terms of smoking, your companions play an important role, since many individuals smoke with their friends in order to relax and enjoy the same experience. Secondly, the sales of cigarettes result in a high yield of profits made by the governments all over the world, due to the taxes paid on the cigarettes. These taxes, which the government receives, can be further used for the development of many public sectors such as the education or health, playgrounds or gardens. Thirdly, all the companies hire many individuals providing them with work, which helps the poorer countries in many ways. If it were not for these industries many people would be sitting jobless.

Despite all these positive pluses, the drawbacks of smoking are very costly and heavy. Smoking has been scientifically proven to be very fatal for health of the smokers and those who are around the smoker. A cigarette alone contains around 4000 chemical substances, which are responsible for numerous health diseases amongst which the prominent known ones are; asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer or heart attack. According to a recent worldly report for every people that is killed each year in road accident, 4 people die due to smoking diseases.
