There are many different reasons for finding the name of a microorganism. The reasons to find the name range from finding out what the microorganism does and to research and develop a cure for a harmful microorganism, to knowing the correct microorganism when used for foods or medicines. This study included all of the tests and results that have been learned in the microbiology laboratory class up to this point.

The class was all given a list of unknowns, and they all had to find out what their unknown was. There were many choices in which to decipher including: Citrobacter freundii-, which is a rod, shaped bacteria usually found in habitats including the environment (water, soil, sewage,) intestinal tracts of animals and humans. C. freundii is Gram negative and it can cause one to have a UTI infection. 25 Apr. 2014. http://genome.wustl.edu/genomes/detail/citrobacter-diversus-koseri/. Citrobacter koseri- rod, shaped bacteria that usually arises from the urinary/gastrointestinal tract. C. koseri exists in water, sewage, soil, and in humans and animals. 25 Apr. 2014. http://genome.wustl.edu/genomes/detail/citrobacter-diversus-koseri/. Enterobacter aerogenes- is a gram negative, rod shaped bacteria that grows and lives in human and animal wastes and also soil, water etc. 25, Apr. 2014. http://antimicrobialcopper.com/us/scientific-proof/registration-against-bacteria/enterobacter-aerogenes.aspx. Enterobacter cloacae- Gram negative, rod shaped bacteria found in mesophillic environments (lower respiratory system, UTI tract.) 25 Apr. 2014. http://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Enterobacter_cloacae. Esherichia Coli, better known as E. coli causes bloody diarrhea, UTI infections, and is found in the human and animal feces. Also found in raw meets. 25 Apr. 2014. http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/e-coli-infection-topic-overview. Hafinia alvei- a gram-negative, rod-shaped bacterium mostly found in babies stool samples. 25 Apr. 2014. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC257869/. Klebsiells pneumonia- is a gram-negative rod shaped bacterium and is also anaerobic and found in the nasopharynix. 25 Apr. 2014. https://microbewiki.kenyon.edu/index.php/Klebsiella_pneumoniae. Morganella morganii- is a gram-negative rod shaped bacterium its environment includes the intestinal tract of humans and animals. 25 Apr. 2014. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/222443-overview. Proteus mirabilas- Gram negative, also rod shaped, and causes UTI infections. 25 Apr. 2014. http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/226434-overview.
