English 1302 Final Essay The semester has definitely been an interesting one and I must say that English 1302 made a big contribution to that. The purpose of this course was to enhance writing, editing, and research skills but in this class much more was gained. There were many different methods used to make sure the class understood completely what was expected throughout the course. I would have to say yes, English 1302 has improved my skills needed to write effectively. The first thing you think of when writing a paper is to take a pen and paper and jot down your own personal thoughts on the subject at hand. Not realizing that there has to be a structure put in place by defining what type of paper is being written, the point that is being addressed, and the audience the paper may be targeted towards. Without acknowledging those things we are just going off a whim with no leading direction. The lack of research will cause an idea to become ineffective because the reader will not have any proof or fact that what is being written hold any truths. It would appear as mere opinions. Not to say we can’t be personal in some subject matter but we must also remember to stay biased in most. Editing in the class was really a big lesson learned because in most classes you’re just used to the teacher going over assignments and making corrections in the infamous red pen. Though editing in this particular class took a different turn because we as the students got edit each
ENGLISH FINAL: COMPRESSED NARRATIVE By Victoria Fogarty Due: Monday 25th August MY HERO Rushing through the automatic sliding door to the hospital, I could feel my heart in my stomach. Abruptly, I stopped. The hospital corridors had an extremely dreary and uncomfortable vibe. Walking down the long and winding hall, I noticed that there were a large number of rooms on the left and the right. Around me doctors and nurses bustled by in their starch white uniforms, stethoscopes draped around their necks…
A famous philosopher of the eighteenth century, Immanuel Kant was a deontologist who characterized humankind by reason and autonomy, or self-governance. In life, there is only one thing that is always and everywhere good. This is a good will, when one chooses to act in accordance with a universal law. With a good will, one must acknowledge the two types of imperatives: hypothetical and categorical. While the hypothetical imperative is non-morally attached to an end result, more important to Kant…
Poor Police Performance Does the name William J. Whitfield 3rd ring a bell with anyone? Will Whitfield is just one of many unsuspecting victims of a police officer who has performed poorly. Whitfield was shot and killed in a supermarket in 1997 by a New York police officer that had mistaken Whitfield’s keys for a gun (Police Brutality… ¶1). The cause for this “lash-out” as some may see it could be closely related to stress. Police officers may not realize that they could be in a situation…

Context is everything. Whether interpreting someone’s speech or writing, it is essential to have all the facts or background to make a sound assessment. Often writers will provide readers with that background in the introduction of their short stories, so the reader can properly analyze the key points, arguments, morals, etc. of the story. Different words are used depending on the mood; the tone of an entire essay can change with the context. The phrase, “he is dead” could be interpreted to mean…
Paige Perault English 101 April 28, 2014 Why I deserve an A Everyone wants to believe they deserve an A in a course if they did all of the assigned work on time, but more goes into an A than just your school work passed in. An A student attends all classes they possibly can, with the exception of illness and other duties. They also have a positive attitude and never complain about an assignment or its due date. Lastly, an A student works hard to produce material at the best of their ability. I…

Silva Kachadorian Professor Ann Smith English 103, Section 4296 26 April 26, 2014 There are various legal methods that can determine a “good” jury. However besides a clean record, there is not a valid way to evaluate the integrity of a chosen juror. A person with no violent background and a peaceful exterior could be prejudicial in a trial as proven in the movie Twelve Angry Men. A prime example of a good juror is Juror 8. He critically challenged the other jurors to reconsider their vote. Another…
