Bravery is something that can come in many different forms. Bravery is not necessarily something we have to overcome everyday, but it is something that people will have to do in there life at some point. It is not always when someone is being fearless but when we stand up for our beliefs, confront our fears and overcome them . One little act of bravery can affect the people around you and yourself. Sometimes you don’t always know the outcome of the situation but do it because you have the courage and confident in yourself. The literature in English 421 teaches about bravery :Even though you don’t have to be brave to stand up for your beliefs, it’s doing what you don’t have to do and standing up for your beliefs because if you believe in something you should be brave and stand up for it and anyone can be brave but you must truly believe in yourself and beliefs to take action. While reading the novel To Kill a Mockingbird, the short story , “Boarder’s”, also the novel My Sisters Keeper showed many different kinds and actions of bravery.
In To Kill a Mockingbird several characters show acts of bravery through word and through actions. Atticus Finch, the father of Scout and Jem, is appointed to defend Tom
Robinson, a black man accused of raping a white woman.”They’re certainly entitled to think, and they’re entitled to full respect for their opinions but before I can live with other folks I’ve got to

live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is person’s conscience” (Lee
120). Atticus always told the children Scout and Jem that he believes in equality and justice. Just because Tom Robinson is black doesn't mean he shouldn’t defend him. He wouldn’t be able to teach Jem and Scout about justice and equality if he didn’t practice it himself. This shows his bravery and the confidents he has in himself to stand up for what he believes is right no matter what the consequences. “You aren't really a nigger-lover, then, are you?” (Lee 106). Simply saying that he is a nigger-lover because he loves everyone, just because people are calling him names he is not about to change his mind about the case.
Atticus receive a lot of hate from the community , when he takes Tom Robinson’s case because in the 1930’s black and white people weren’t considered to be in the same class , white people were considered to be superior, in this time people were very prejudice. “When it's a white man's word against a black man's, the white man always wins.”(Lee 103). Even if a white man did wrong, people would always believe a white man over a black man.Scout stands up in front of the men who were trying to get at Tom Robinson. “We were taking a short cut across the square when four dusty cars came in from the Meridian highway, moving slowly in a line”.(Lee
80). Scout and Jem gazed as the men pull up in front of the jail. “Don’t you remember me, Mr.
Cunningham? I’m Jean Louise Finch. You brought us some hickory nuts one time, remember?”( Lee 81) . Scout appeared from hiding because she thought that Atticus was in trouble, but when she was looking at them all she saw Mr. Cunningham. When she started talking to Mr.Cunningham, it changed their mind about everything. They couldn’t do anything with a child around. This shows an act if bravery as Scout was very brave to go help her father.

“Let’s clear out” (Lee 82). After talking to Mr.Cunningham they changed there mind about there actions. Boo Radley does some acts of bravery near the end of the book. He’s finally brave enough to come out of his house to help the children escape from Bob Ewell, as he was carrying
Jem. “Jem’s arm was dangling crazily in front of him.” (Lee 278). We find out later that Bob
Ewell attacked the children and Boo Radley was watching them from his house and saw Bob with a knife but was still brave enough to do what he
embraced this ideal and used money and power to enact laws to keep themselves in position to discriminate and rule over others by creating fear. Racism is taught to Sui Sin Far at a very young age because of the fact that she is of mixed dissent, English and Chinese. She grew up in America during a time of hatred and fear of the Chinese, which brought about the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. What is amazing about her story is that even though her parents had money, she is still scorned, ridiculed…
