Thesis Statement: The poem is a great example of communicative techniques and display of mood. Themes of the poem include man and nature, life and religion to list a few. Because the identity of the poet isn't really entailed in the poem but further investigation on him has given me answers which prove relevant to the poem. Although the setting of the poem isn't explicitly listed in the poem one can get a feel of the setting due to the fact that it was written in 1877 which was in the industrialization era. And all of the themes are strongly conveyed within the poem and descriptive in nature.

The author’s personality is strongly conveyed within the poem especially in through author’s Faith and somewhat optimistic outlook considering is realization of the state of nature and the trouble that mankind has brought upon it. Although the author doesn’t truly reveal himself within the poem I’ve done my own research on Gerald Manley Hopkins and found out that he lived from 1844-1889 in Stratford, London has a Victorian poet of the Roman Catholic faith eventually transition to life as a Jesuit. It is said that Gerald Manley Hopkins never intended to have his poem published, but later entrusted them to a friend who published them later on. I myself was captivated by the poem due to its title alone, which was intriguing because of its mentioning of God but, upon reading the poem I was captivated due its flow which makes it easy to read and understand as well as it descriptive nature. To me the poem is a revelation in a sense showing the negative effects that mankind had on nature in 1877, and how these things are even more prevalent in 2015.
