A career in the department of engineering consists of practicing the scientific principles in order to meet social and consumer needs. Engineers develop efficient solutions to technical problems. There are different branches that stem out and create detailed tasks for each component of engineering. The reason for choosing a specific career in engineering, such as chemical, electrical, civil, or mechanical is to have a lucrative and successful future, and to support one’s family. The broad range in particular areas of technology to work with is made possible by this field.
A branch that deals directly with the application of physical science is chemical engineering. The goal in this profession is to convert raw materials or chemicals into a more useful form for society. Sample workings of chemical engineers consist of nanotechnology and fuel cells. These specific engineers make production at a large-scale possible since they design, maintain, and improve the process. With chemical engineers reorganizing the structure of molecules, they design chemical processes that can alter raw materials. Paper mills, manufacturers of fertilizers, and tons of other kinds of firms will be looking for their expertise. Chemical engineers have been creating their own innovation using their knowledge of chemistry, physics and mathematics to create, carry out, and mass-produce their ideas (Bureau of Labor Statistics). Chemical engineers increase our nation's economic status by coming up with new ideas in improving production of raw materials. Keeping in mind the effects on the environment and consumers, these engineers have a specific task at hand.
Another branch of this occupation is electrical engineering. Electrical engineering is the study and application of electricity, electronics, and electromagnetism. Ever since the commercialization of the electric telegraph and power supply, this area of engineering has been a vital source to society's expansion in communication. This branch of engineering now covers topics such as power, electronics, control systems, and signal processing (Bureau of Labor Statistics). This career usually includes classes covering physics, mathematics, and computer science.
The Electrical engineering branch focuses more on electricity and the basic forms of energy used in society. Electrical engineers' main job is to provide means of attaining sources such as gas, solar, and wind energy and providing these sources to our homes, offices, and even hospitals. Electrical engineers apply their skills in a variety of workplaces like defense-related firms where they improve military weapons and aeronautic military systems. There is an increasing demand for an electrical engineer's work and their skills with the latest technology and that makes me feel really comfortable with my academic major decision and Wartburg’s job placement rate is definitely a huge plus.
Roads, buildings, and airports are all designed by another field of engineering called civil engineering. Civil Engineers work in our community managing people and projects. Being one of the oldest branches of engineering, this field has been around ever since the maintenance of society became a priority. These engineers must take into account many factors such as the cost to making the project and the weather. There are many specialties within this branch.
