Vitamin D that our body produces when we are exposed to the sun is very efficient in curing so many diseases. It protects from arthritis, diabetes, infectious diseases, Robyn Lucas, an epidemiologist at Australian National University says “Far more lives are lost to diseases caused by a lack of sunlight, than to those caused by too much sun” (Kotz, 2008). We have also heard so much about tanning industries and how dangerous the tanning beds are. Not according to Bruce Hollis, a leading vitamin D researcher at the Medical University of South Carolina, he says “Tanning beds that produce UVB will generate vitamin D” (Doughton, 2008). After some research Hiran Ratnayake, had learned that the numbers given to public regarding developing cancer from tanning beds are not so true. He found out from the studies that he looked through, that there are not much different between people that tan and those that don’t use tanning beds, to develop melanoma. The information that he found “showed that less than three-tenths of 1 percent tanners develop melanoma and less than two-tenths of 1 percent of those that don’t tan develop melanoma” (Christensen, 2010). Schwartz, a general internist at Veterans Affairs Medical Center said “Melanoma is pretty rare and almost all the time, the way to make it look scarier is to present the relative change, the 75 percent increase, rather than to point out that it is still really rare” (Christensen, 2010). Sunlight is the best medicine; it cures us from so many different diseases and also from depression. Even

Running Head: The Causes of Cancer Marisa Voisard Marion Technical College The Causes of Cancer The Causes of Cancer The causes of cancer are broad, but if the right precautions are taken a person has a great chance of keeping their risk minimal. Cancer is defined by the Merriam-Webster dictionary as a serious disease caused by cells that are not normal and that can spread to one or many parts of the body. Cancer is caused by a mutation of genes, which cause cells to grow abnormally. “Cancer…
Kyla Glen Research Paper April 13, 2013 English 2100; 5:00 The Pressures/ Harmful Effects of Tanning and Skin Cancer Introduction When I was growing up my mom had always stressed wearing sunscreen, and frowned upon the use of tanning beds. She has always made sure we were very conscious about protecting our skin. Coming from her experience of having skin cancer, and a close friend losing her dad to skin cancer, I have always had an interest in this subject. Today in our current culture…
Global Warming Effect on the Earth By Tyler wood THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT -The greenhouse effect is something is the needed for humans to live. The greenhouse effect is in the atmosphere and it traps the UV waves and absorbs the energy. The energy that is trapped in the atmosphere is both absorbed and sent back into space. This action heats up the earth and keeps a layer of heat around the earth. The heat that is kept this layer is enough to heat earth during the night because the earth gets cold…

Use ray boxes and mirrors to show reflection (class practical). Students should trace the path of the light and explain how it reaches its final destination. Use ray boxes and mirrors to trace the path light takes from one place to another. Students should appreciate that light doesn’t leave the eye and hit anything but leaves an object…

Eating Chocolate Can Save Your Skin First Last Grand Canyon University: UNV 501 November 28, 2011 Eating Chocolate Can Save Your Skin Everyone knows excessive exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can have adverse effect on the human epidermis. For years, scientists, dermatologists, and mothers-in-law have offered varying solutions for this problem with varying results. An interesting contribution to this discussion comes from three cosmeticians…
