Tobacco,Alcohol and Drugs Reflective Essay Drugs. Alcohol. Tobacco. These three words are heard and often present throughout teen’s lives.
Last year
3.6 percent of 8th graders, 14.5 percent of 10th graders, and 28.1 percent of 12th graders reported getting drunk in the past month. Also, in 2012, 6.5 percent of 8th graders, 17.0 percent of 10th graders, and 22.9 percent of 12th graders used marijuana in the past month. Tobacco has become less used among teens compared to marijuana. In 2012, 17.1 percent of 12th graders were current
(pastmonth) cigarette smokers. In the past 10 years drug and alcohol use has increased in teens. I think that there are many reasons teens abuse illegal substances. One reason teens abuse illegal substances is because the influences of media. There are many commercials that talk about meth, but I hardly see any that see “don’t do weed.” Also, beer commercials show people having a great time, not a bunch of people hung over or with medical issues. I don’t think using drugs, alcohol, and tobacco is good at all, but on TV most commercials encourage the use of tobacco and alcohol so a teen might think it can’t be too bad. The ramifications of this can be deadly. Driving under the influence of any substance is lethal. Plus, most substances have serious long term effects. That is why I do not agree with the idea of teens using illegal substances. Three values that direct my decisions towards drugs, alcohol, and tobacco are my parents don’t want me to, they have serious consequences, and I don't see the benefit to doing them. If my parents ever heard of me doing drugs, alcohol or tobacco in my teen years, they would kill me. Also, if I was driving
under the influence and crashed into someone else’s car and ended up killing them. I would never be able to live with myself. Many teens think it is cool to do drugs, but I don’t see what’s so cool when you get high laugh a little, make some poor choices, then just feel loopy for a while. What’s cool about that? In my opinion, drugs are dumb, alcohol is bad when drunk
DRUGS and it’s affect’s The United States is at war. I am not talking about the war in Iraq or the War on Terrorism; I am talking about the War on Drugs. We are currently facing a large debate on the issue of drugs. That is whether drugs should remain illegal or be legalized within the United States. It has come to be a war; a war which is being fought against our own citizens and against other countries. It is a war which has taken many lives and will not cease in its toll. Both sides of the…
Drugs and Addiction Drugs have many effects on the body and mind. People use drugs for various reasons nowadays; some are prescribed, but what about the people that use not prescribed? How do they get them? Many people that use these drugs find themselves doing almost anything to get them; there have even been some college students that get doctors and therapists to give medications without much examination. There are many drugs a person can get addicted to from prescription drugs to more illegal…
America 5 May 2013 U.S. Drug Policy There has been much controversy over the United States current drug policy. With new studies showing that some current illegal drugs actually have medical benefits, there has been a sudden outcry from the public on drug legalization. There are certain questions regarding the drug policy that I felt most relevant to this policy issue today in the following paragraphs. I have given the two opposing views of each question. The war on drugs in the United States has…
Drugs are illegal and dangerous items. As a suggestion, do not get conned into carrying drugs for others, whether as personal favors or for profit. The risks far outweigh the possibility of getting away with it. In addition, if an individual is bringing prescription drugs, he should play it safe and bring the prescription for those drugs. He needs to bring any drugs which have been prescribed by the doctor, he must also bring evidence of the type of drug he is using. Otherwise, drugs will be confiscated…
The Use and Abuse of Drugs Drugs: What is a drug? A drug can be any substance/chemical you take that effects the way your body works and what it does. A drug will pass from your body into your brain. When drugs are inside your brain, they can change the messages brain cells are sending to each other or/and to the rest of your body. They do this by interfering and therefore changing the brains chemical signals. These are neurotransmitters that transfer signals across synapses. The affect…
One of the most commonly recognized addictions include addictions to alcohol and other mood-altering drugs. I know many people who are, and were once addicted to alcohol and many other drugs. To be addicted to anything is to need it; you’ll do whatever it takes to get that drug. Even if that means give away your most prized position. When I was five years old I always wondered why my mother would leave during the middle of the night, she would be gone and might come back when it was time for me…
THE WAR ON DRUGS Group: Squadra Vita Due: Oct.21, 2013 The War On Drugs In 2010 the United States spent over $15 million dollars on the “war on drugs”. Do you think all this money should be spent on a growing problem such as these issues? The war on drugs consists of the campaigns aimed to reduce illegal drug trades. Nixon declared the war on drugs in 1971, Close to $500 dollars is estimated to be spent every second! It has an extremely high cost: your hard-earned tax dollars pay for this…
The Use of Illegal Drugs throughout Pregnancy A women’s pregnancy can be one of the most enjoyable times of their life! Therefore, it is important for a woman to do everything that she is capable of in order to protect both herself and her unborn fetus throughout the duration of her pregnancy. Unfortunately, some women abuse this joyful time by using drugs, both illegal and prescription. never use or take any type of illegal drug or alcoholic substance because I have seen what drugs and alcohol can do to people. I have seen how far the deepest pits go, without ever having been there myself. I know what bottom is and I shall never go there! People that I knew and might have loved once have gone to the bottom and died there. I will NOT follow in their footsteps and make the same mistakes that they have made. I have seen drugs and alcohol turn good, caring people into…
