One of the most commonly recognized addictions include addictions to alcohol and other mood-altering drugs. I know many people who are, and were once addicted to alcohol and many other drugs. To be addicted to anything is to need it; you’ll do whatever it takes to get that drug. Even if that means give away your most prized position.
When I was five years old I always wondered why my mother would leave during the middle of the night, she would be gone and might come back when it was time for me to go to school. I didn’t know it then, but I would soon figure out my mother was addicted to crack cocaine. There were people in and out of our house all the time, sometimes she would even make me and my four other siblings go play outside so we weren’t in the house while she was getting high. Most of her “friends” smelt like beer, some of them looked very wealthy; they would always give me dollar coins. I was the youngest of five children and I didn’t recognize that my family was dysfunctional.
According to drugfreeworld.org, cocaine causes a short-lived, intense high that is immediately followed by the opposite—intense depression, edginess and a craving for more of the drug. Some people who use the drug often don’t have proper eating or sleeping habits. The drug can also make people anxious, paranoid, and hostile, even when they are not high. The drug is more powerful than some may think. Cocaine can damage your kidneys, liver, and or heart.
There is the cocaine you can smoke, then there’s the powder kind. Because it is smoked, the effects of crack cocaine are more immediate and more intense than the powdered cocaine. It causes an increase of your heart rate and blood
