Let’s Agree the Drinking Age of 21

Drinking age is not a strange phrase in our lives. Every time when we go to club or buy some liquor, we have to show our photo ID to prove that we have already 21 and we are legal to drink wine. I think this is a really good method to control drinking problem. Before I read these two articles which are “The 21-Year-Old Drinking Age: I Voted for it, It Doesn’t Work” by Dr. Morris E. Chafetz and “The Drinking Age of 21 Saves Lives” by Toben F. Nelson and Traci L. Toomey, I only felt that when people grow up they will have self-control to hold their desire for drinking and could decide whether it is appropriate to drink at that moment. I didn’t collect any data or information to support my opinion,

It seems like a big joke.

When Dr. Chafetz wanted to say that 21 was not a right age to make judgments, he discussed the age 18 first. But he didn’t relate these two different ages together and only alleged that age 18 meant a person is an adult and people are still childish when they are 21 years ago. In the following paragraphs, Dr. Chafetz thought if drinking won’t cause any brain impairment or we can just say that we do not have any evidence to prove that drinking cause brain impairment, we could allow people who are 18 or even younger to drink. Do all these points make sense to you? Can you find any logical discussion in these sentences? I felt shocked when I read these paragraphs. First, Dr.Chafetz didn’t criticized age 18, so we may think that he thought a person who is 18 will have a better behavior than when he is 21. How could that possible? People will learn some experience when they grow up. Second, according to Dr. Chafetz’s theory, people could drink as much as they like and drinking should not take responsible for any physical problem. If this is true, why people still need to attend Alcoholics Anonymous to get help? Why so many medical experts call on the whole society to drink less with their research results? Do all these facts mean nothing to Dr. Chafetz?

The schools’ influence was also mentioned in Dr. Chafetz’s article, he thought that school should lead students to
