So I would like to introduce the origin of Dragon boat festival, the traditions, and the food.
First, the origin of the dragon boat festival. It is a traditional holiday in china. The festival occurs on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional lunar calendar, so it is also called Double Fifth Festival. This festival is also to memorialize Qu Yuan. He is a great poet in ancient time. He warned the Emperor about invasion from other countries, but emperor did not listen to him. When his motherland was invaded, he saw people died, he couldn’t bear the national humiliation, so he drown himself into the river. Local people rowed boat to rescue him, however they couldn’t find him. To protect his body, people threw rice dumplings into river, so fish can eat rice dumplings instead his body. Now the rice dumplings becomes traditional food and boar racing becomes traditional activities.
Second point is the traditions, when dragon boat festival coming, there will be dragon boata racing. No matter it is a lake, or river, thousands of people will shout and cheer for the teams. The second one is Sachet, the shape looks like dumplings, inside there is some special herb with good smell. Parents helped their kids tied them on waist, they believe Sachet can bring people good luck. The third one is Calamus and mugwort.
