REFLECTION
In looking in the previous weeks I can say a lot has been learned. If I have learned anything, it is to look more closely at the situations at hand; because not everything is as it seems. In week 2 we discussed diversity. Cultural diversity is having a heart and a mind that acknowledges, accepts, values and even celebrates the various ways that people live and interact in the world (Diversity Affairs, 2013). In my own life it could be applied to not judge my co-workers harshly before every meeting them. The newness and differences of people can be a barrier to learning if we do not take it head on.
Week 3 and Week 4 we discussed termination and motivation of employees. When looking to terminate people all pros and cons should be evaluated carefully. The company should look at “is this person an asset that we cannot live without?” If in the termination process we decide the “term” is worth saving we have to find alternate ways in motivating the employee. Unhappy employees cause for a less productive company.
In week 5 I discussed attitudes within the workforce. I concluded that as managers, we obviously cannot control person’s thoughts, but we do have a responsibility to the people of programs we manage to address behavior that affects the individual and the team (Graham, Rogacki, Schumann, & Zuberbier, 2010). Behaviors and attitudes have to be continuously checked in provide a happy environment. You cannot please everyone, but as a company there
