Dear Parents:
I am your child’s 5th grade teacher, and I am delighted to have your child in my class this year. I am looking forward to a very successful year and I know you are too. I have high expectations for your child and I will do all that I can to help your child achieve those expectations.
I am so excited to inform you, that we are beginning a health and nutrition to promote healthy eating habits in children. The class teaches your child how the structure of healthy eating and social support so children are able to learn the process of nourishing to maintain health and growth. They learn how to calculate their body mass index (BMI). And we will take a field trip to Albertson's Supermarket, where they will experience hands on healthy eating tips, and is designed to reinforce the nutrition and healthy living curricula taught in schools.
Healthy eating patterns in childhood and adolescence promote optimal childhood health, growth, and intellectual development; prevent immediate health problems, such as iron deficiency anemia, obesity, eating disorders, and dental caries; and may prevent long-term health problems, such as coronary heart disease, cancer, and stroke. Your child will learn about mental health, dealing with loss, nutrition, sex education, safety, disease prevention, and good health. This school is committed by providing your child with the skills, social support, and environmental reinforcement your child needs to adopt long-term, healthy eating behaviors and healthy living.

Ultimately in our heath-class your child will be able to define health as being a state of sound body, mind and spirit. Your child will learn to plan physical activity for the purpose of conditioning the body, improving health, and maintaining fitness.
