Throughout the early origins of the pre-independent America there were various colonies that were settled by people seeking new opportunities. Two of these regions that were largely colonized by the English man were the New England and Chesapeake regions. It can be noted that although these areas were settled by the same general group of people there were undeniably major differences that arose with the birth of the colonies. Some of the differences that differentiated these regions were the type of people coming from the Old World to the New, the ideals on which the societies are based on and the priorities and obligation that’s each of the colonies faced daily. Without a doubt both colonies were established for the same basic reason but after that the colonies define a clear line on who’s who. As the English left there old homes in search for new ones it can be perceived those different types of people and who they came with caused distinct societies to occur. The Ships list of Emigrants shows that there were many various families that were arriving to New England and that there were not any individuals travelling at that time as stated in Doc. B. Additionally, the list includes the occupation of the father of the family such as “Joseph Hull, a minister and Timothy Tabor, a tailor”. This shows that maybe everyone was coming for a certain purpose or task that was allotted to them allowing for them to be successful are their services were required. As you go down the list it is shown all the family members from the wife all the way to the daughter’s husband that is arriving with the ship. I could be assumed from this document that many of the inhabitants of New England were made up of families that left England together to start a new life. Many of the people that travelled to New England were Puritans so it could be thought that the men brought his whole family over in order to escape religious persecution in England (O.I.). Also there were promises of land so a father intended to start a new more successful life with his family at his side (O.I.). Additionally in the Ships List of Emmigrants Bound for Virginia the first visible thing is that there is no order or organization to the occupants on the ship as shown in Doc C. The people can be presumed to just be travelling to the New World alone or certainly not with their families. Also their occupations are not state so presumably they could be travelling just to find any work that is available to them as they might not have any certain trades they are able to perform. All the settlers on board had to take oaths of loyalty towards the Church of England and allegiance to the country so the freedoms that the settlers might have been looking for were lost. A reason many of individuals came to Virginia and not many families was that many of the people were serving time as indentured servants as they tried to pay off their debts back in England (O.I.). Also many man travelled over after they heard about the booming tobacco industry that had become ever so popular back in England (O.I.). Overall the differences between the two regions become apparent as its can distinguished that one colony was more family orientated while the other was more for individuals following the path of their country. Each of the different regions had either agreements or something known by all the settlers that they had to abide by in order for the colonies to be successful. Each of the different colonies had their own set of rule and priorities that guided their everyday activities and that is where another difference arises. Document D shows that within the Articles of Agreement that the settlers living in this region must carry out certain duties that have been agreed on by all the inhabitants of that plantation in this case. It shows how in Massachusetts that whenever available the people will construct a Church and to find a minister that will allow the residents to practice their
