Cyber-bullying Cyber-bullying is big issue all over the world. Many kids have to deal with cyber-bullying every day. There should be a punishment for cyber-bullying because of all the short and long term effects it can have on kids. Children who have been cyber-bullied or currently are being cyber-bullied are more likely to: use drugs and alcohol, skip school, receive poor grades, have low self-esteem, and have more health problems. In most cases the bully goes to the kid’s school or is even in their class. Many children who are cyber-bullied are bullied in real life as well. This can make them feel like they cannot escape the bullying. School then becomes an unsafe environment for the kids, when it should be a safe place for them. Many of the children are too afraid to tell an adult about their problems. Some may worry that it will just make the bullying worse, or maybe that the adult will not be able to really help. Many schools have policies already set in place for inappropriate internet use outside of school, but not all schools have a punishment. Recent research shows that 6% of kids grades 6-12 experience cyber-bullying. Another survey shows that 16% of high school students have dealt with cyber-bullying in the past year alone ("What Is Cyberbullying." Home. N.p., n.d. Web. 06 Dec. 2013). A punishment such as suspension could deter kids from bullying someone online or at school.
