Costa Rica Costa Rica is exactly what it means, rich coast. The beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts are full of beautiful plants, animals and people. That is what I consider to be rich. The beaches are not rich like others might think. Costa Rica lacked gold and silver that mesmerized the 16th century Spanish conquerors. For this very reason Spain virtually ignored Costa Rica during colonial times. Costa Rica also lacked a large amount of Amerindian population, that is why most of the…
Trevor Carr Mas 74 11/11/2014 Costa Rica Good morning everyone, I’d like to start off by having you all close your eyes for a moment. Now imagine yourself in the middle of a south american rain forest surrounded by pure green, vibrant colors, and a variety of different plant and wildlife. Imagine yourself taking a stroll down a golden coast with water so clear you can see through it like glass. Imagine yourself soaring high above tropical canopies and soon after being swept down a raging river full of swift white water rapids…
muscles are all built up to hike long distances without complaining. Going to Costa Rica would mean the world to me. I would love to experience a new culture and be able to watch newborn turtles find their way home to the ocean. Planting trees in a community is a great way to make it look even more tropical. I would like to be able to see a rainforest and be able to learn about its ecosystem. Staying with a Costa Rica family would be really neat. Being able to learn…
feel this way every day I go to work. I believe that this is also the reason that I am very interested in doing a rotation in Costa Rica. My interest in studying abroad began as an undergraduate student at the University of Kentucky. I looked into many different opportunities, but I never found a good fit for my educational purposes. After learning about the Costa Rica APPE rotation, I feel that I have found the right opportunity for me. One aspect of the rotation that appealed to me was the…
Costa Rica Rainforests Most of Costa Rica’s forestation can be classified into three groups; rainforests, cloud forests and topical dry forests. While rainforests are the most common habitat, the cloud forests of Costa Rica are magnificent. Rainforests can be found in the southwest of the country as well as in the Atlantic lowlands, with towering trees and looping vines that create its environment. Receiving a high annual rainfall, these dense forests are characterised by a variety of different…
My Trip/Experiences in Costa Rica Last summer I signed up for the CAC Spanish immersion trip. Costa Rica was not what I expected but I learned a lot and I am glad I went. First Stop, San Jose CR. San Jose is the capital of CR. Explain my person experiences while in San Jose. (City life) (School) San Manuel CR. is a rural area on the pacific coast line. It was a tropical small town with funding coming from primarily tourism. Excursions- While I was in Costa Rica I had many adventures. I was able…
Michael Conner Lion fish invasion A lion fish is a colorful Pacific reef fish. Its orange and white zebra stripe like pattern makes it a favorite to American salt water tanks. These fish are predatory and do not care what type of fish it is feeding on as long as it can be swallowed. They have many fins with spiny protrusions. Each fin tip has a potent poison. This poison among other things causes extreme pain and fever with vomiting and nausea. If you’re allergic to the venom you will probably…
Although Costa Rica is a great place for a US Company to utilize outsourcing efforts, there are still various challenges that companies should consider. Beyond mentioning the important language barriers, Costa Rica simply has a lot of competition in the Latin American outsourcing market. In 2011 AT Kearney conducted a survey that ranked Costa Rica 19th in the world in destinations of choice for outsourcing, behind Mexico, Chile, and Brazil within Latin America (Costa Rica Economy, 2013). Ultimately…

some excellent cuisine at Jaco's variety of restaurants. Ticos are what the Costa Ricans are familiarly called. This was usually added to the end of words to denote smallness. Many of the Costa Rican people are of European as well as mestizo decent. Most of the people of this area were powerless against such diseases as measles and the common cold which were carried by the Spaniards to this small country. The Costa Rican people have a great sense of pride because they have formed a unique nation…
