PURPOSE
The purpose of this experiment is to determine and compare the lung function of males and females of a healthy and sick lung. I became interested in this experiment when I found out that many teenagers that soon became adults would die of lung disease for having any viral infections or smoking as they grew older. I wanted to know if age made a difference in lung disease. I based my hypothesis on my grandmother ­because she has a C.O.P.D.­ and my cousin because they both have asthma. I've seen them when they have trouble breathing and get sick.
The information that will be gained from this experiment can help other people, like adults for example, know whether they're more likely to have lung disease. Many adults may not realize that their lungs aren't as healthy as it use to be. If you feel something strange with your breathing or so, contact a doctor right away, because the more you wait, the more dangerous the consequences could be. some may be permanent or fatal.
I first gathered 20 people and interviewed each one of them and put a check mark on the type of lung disease they had or their background family had. Most of the types of lung diseases would be really challenging. I gathered people from ages 18­24, 25­44, 45­54, 55­64, 65­74, 75­84, and 85 and over. Between these age groups the one that was mostly affected was 45­54.
COPD was the group that was mostly affected but the age groups was mixed. The groups that were even amount were lung cancer, pneumonia, primary pulmonary hypertension. These groups were mostly affected. Lung disease refers to disorders that affect the lungs, the organs that allow us to breathe. Breathing problems caused by lung disease may prevent the body from getting enough oxygen. Many people have conditions that make breathing difficult. Some of these conditions are inherited, or passed on from parents. Examples of lung disease are:
• asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema (C.O.P.D.) chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
• infections, such as influenza and pneumonia
• lung cancer

HYPOTHESIS My first hypothesis is to find out if adults will have a higher chance of having lung disease than children. My second hypothesis was to find out if women would have a higher chance than men would. I asked adults about their families’ health and history based on lung diseases. lung h, like asthma is a chronic long term lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing (whistling sound when you breathe), chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. the coughing often occurs at night or early in the morning. Asthma affects people of all ages, but it most often starts during childhood.
In the united states, more than 25 million people are known to have asthma. About 7 million of these people are children. There is no cure for asthma, but it can be managed and treated so you can live a normal, and healthy life. C.O.P.D. is the 3rd leading cause of death in the united states. These disease kills more than 120,000 americans each year­ thats 1 death every 4 minutes, and causes

serious, long­ term disability. The number of people with
