Co-operative Group Limited engages in the food, pharmacy, funeral care, property, electrical, and legal and banking service businesses principally in Europe. It operates 2,816 local, conveniences, and medium sized food stores, as well as a pharmacy chain with approximately 750 branches; and online electrical store. The company also offers banking and insurance services to personal and business customers through 342 branches and 22 corporate banking centers, telephony, and online channels. In addition, it has a portfolio of property investments and provides property management services; and offers consumer legal and insurance broking services. The company was formerly known as Co-operative Group (CWS) Limited and changed its name to Co-operative Group Limited in December 2007. Co-operative Group Limited was founded in 1844 and is based in Manchester, United Kingdom.
The Co-operative Group is the UK’s largest mutual business, owned by over seven million customer members. It is the UK’s fifth biggest food retailer, a leading farmer and a major financial services provider, operating The Co-operative Bank and The Co-operative Insurance.
