Clear the Fog In the 1950s, treatment of mental illness was at its highest peak, and at its most dangerous point. Because of the new discoveries to treat the mentally ill in the1950s, dangerous medicines and operations were used on people without much research. Patients were introduced to methods such as Electric Shock Therapy, drugs, and lobotomies. These methods were performed without consideration of the physical strain it took on the patient. We see examples of this in Ken Kesey’s novel, One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The effects of McMurphy on Bromden in the novel let Bromden see what was really going on in the hospital, Bromden was able to come out of the fog and eventually have a better future outside the hospital.
One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest by Ken Kesey is based off the first hand experiences that Kesey had while working in a mental aslyum. He even saw some patients get abused in some of the most gruesome ways possible. These experiences are what made Ken Kesey write One Flew Over the Cukoo's Nest. McMurphy changed Bromden's life while they were on the ward together. Befrore Randall P. McMurphy came in to the ward; Chief Bromden was thought to be deaf and dumb by all the patients and even the nurses that worked in the ward. "They don't bother not talking out loud about their hate secrets when I'm nearby because they think I'm deaf and dumb." Even though Cheif can hear as well as anybody else the nurses don't know that. When McMurphy arrives on the ward Bromden notices that McMurphy has a certain swagger to him. "His swagger all remind me of a car salesman or a stock auctioneer." McMurphy quickly sees that Bromden is always chewing gum and offers Bromden some Juicy Fruit. Bromden speaks his very first words, and they're to McMurphy. "Juicy Fruit is the best I can do for you at the moment. And befrore I realized what I was doing, I told him Thank you."After McMurphy gives Bromden the gum the two share some laughs and exchange stories with each other. Now that McMurphy knows that Bromden can hear and speak he makes a deal with Bromden. The deal they agree to is- if McMurphy pays for Bromden to go on the fishing trip, Bromden has to lift the control panel that McMurphy failed to make Bromden big again. "You promise me that, and you not only get my special body building course for nothing but you get yourself a ten

Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” provides a clear warning to humanity because of the way the narrator delivers the message. The loss and destruction of WWI left humanity feeling depressed and lonely. The world is bleak and polluted, and people are feeling abandoned by God. Eliot’s poem “The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock” is filled with fear and sadness. A good example of showing these certain emotions would be from the lines 15 through 21: “The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window panes……

The Fog of War The Theme of War is a crime of passion not of logic. Logic is and will continue to be humanities’ greatest asset. Yet as a society in general we allow ourselves to revert to instinctive passionate behavior, instead of the rational and calculated ones that we observe today. As we look at Robert S. McNamara’s “The Fog of War”, discusses the possible necessity of escalating troop deployments after the confusion of the Gulf of Tonkin incident and whether or not it actually happened…
