Hello everyone! Today I will be talking to you about an explorer named Christopher Columbus. Let me start by telling you about his background. Columbus was an Italian explorer, navigator and colonizer. He was born in October and in the year of 1451.He was born in Genoa, Italy. His Italian name was Cristoforo Colombo. He was the son of Domenica and Susanna Fontanorossa. His wife’s name was Filpa Moniz Perestrolo. He had 4 siblings. Their names were Bartholomew, Giovanni, Bianchinetta and Giacomo. He had 2 sons. Their names were Ferdinand and Diego.
His first voyage took place in August 3rd 1492; Columbus sailed from Palos de la France with 3 ships. The Santa Maria and 2 caravel ships. Columbus sailed to the Canary Islands. He discovered America in this voyage. After that, he departed from San Sebastian la Gomera on 6th September which turned out to be a five week voyage across the ocean. Rodrigo de Tirana, spotted land at 2 in the morning at 12 October and immediately told all the crew members with a shout. Columbus Thereupon, the captain of the Pinta, verified the discovery and alerted Columbus by firing a Lombard Columbus later maintained that he himself had already seen a light on the land a few hours earlier, thereby claiming for himself the lifetime pension promised by Ferdinand and Isabella to the first person to sight land. Columbus called the land in what is now the Bahamas, San Salvador and the natives called it Guanahani.
