II. Intro/Background
Light is a continuous spectrum of frequencies and wavelengths. Depending on the size of the wavelength, its frequency will either be higher or lower. All light waves travel at the same speed. In this lab, you will be conducting an experiment to determine the effects that different color ultraviolet lights have on a glow star. III. Hypothesis
We predict that the glow star will produce the color of the light that is shined on it. We predict this will occur because the waves transferred to the glow star will cause it to produce the same color. IV. Procedure:
Materials Needed
1. Tube with foil wrapped at the end that contains the glow star.
2. Six different colored light bulb (Christmas lights)
3. 2 AA Batteries
4. Alligator wires
5. Battery compartment Step 1. Insert the batteries into battery holder.
Step 2. Connect light bulb to alligator wires. (If the light bulb doesn’t light up, change position of the wires –switch the clippers).
Step 3. Hold light bulb to container that holds the glow star for approximately 30 seconds, within an inch away from the foil.
Step 4. Follow the same procedure using the remaining light bulbs.
Step 5. Write down your observations and compare each data analysis.
V. Data Analysis
Our data shows the color of the light, whether or not it shined, and the brightness scale of the star from the light ranging between 1-10 with 10 being the brightest and 1 being the lowest. Our experiment had a controlled variable which was the time limit the light was shined on the star which was 45 seconds.
