Chapter 3 Article Critique

Child obesity has been on the rise on not only the national, but also the global level. It has become so widespread that now obesity is considered to be one of the most common chronic disorders among young people everywhere. According to the article “A review of electronic interventions for prevention and treatment of overweight and obesity in young people” utilization of electronic intervention should be used with caution. (Nguyen, B. et al, 2010) Since the overall quality of the studies was poor. However, it is possible for a practical solution utilizing electronic intervention, but at this time it requires further research and development. It has also been found that interactive learning should be part of these electronic interventions so that treatment of obesity would be more effective. On the other hand, as a result of the increased child obesity, the U.S. government enacted the Health Promotion Act of 1976. Under this act, the office of consumer health education and promotion was created. This organization serves to promote health education that promotes cultural awareness and sensitivity in regard to individual and community health. Ultimately, hands on intervention would be much more effective than utilizing electronic alternatives.
