Changing Perspectives
Katie Schimmel’s Road to Classroom Confidence
I never thought I would be taking an online class. In the past, I have thought of online classes to be for students who don’t want to spend the time and effort to go to class 2-3 times per week. My opinions have changed. I am a first semester senior hoping to graduate 1 semester early in December. I am an accounting major from Brentwood, Tennessee and have lived in the Nashville area for the majority of my life.
My academics have always been a huge passion of mine ever since I made the transition from Brentwood Middle School, a well thought of public middle school, to Franklin Road Academy, a prestigious Christian private school. My parents became overly concerned about me in middle school because I was making straight D’s and F’s and didn’t know how to apply myself because I lacked so much confidence in the classroom.
It was one afternoon early in the spring semester of my 8th grade year when I sat down with the Upper School Dean at Franklin Road Academy to review my application to the school for high school. I can vividly remember him trying not to laugh at my grades and tell me how much harder private school would be for me in coming from such a loose environment. At that moment I changed. My academic goals changed after I was accepted into FRA for high school. I became a straight A student and graduated with honors at a 3.7 cumulative GPA.
After realizing how good I could be at something once I applied myself, I
psychology, there are many perspectives that explain how depression is caused and how it should be treated. One perspective, the biological perspective, focuses on genetics and the brain. Another perspective is the behavioral perspective, which focuses on changing your behavior, and finally the cognitive perspective, which focuses on changing your mindset and how you view things. Everyone responds differently to treatment. However using a combination of these three perspectives should be very effective…
2014 Period 7 A New Perspective through Ancient MythThe werewolf, in an archetypal myth perspective, can be expressed in different archetypes or recurring image. By looking at this story in this point of view I found a connection to a very familiar story, Little Red Riding Hood and is easily familiarized throughout the story. Myths and a form of religion are seen in this story by actions taken by people of the story and what goes on throughout. Myths, this story, by changing from one being to another…
an academy where he recovers. Internal change is shown in the way Ben’s personality and perspective of his dad change after the incident. Chapter 5 shows change of personality and mind. When Ben meets his father for the first time after the incident, emotive language and exaggeration are used to magnify the tension and emotions Ben feels with his father. This shows that by Ben physically changing it has affected his and his father’s mind state. This demonstrates that physical change can not…
Hyperglobalist Perspective The authors describe the hyperglobalist perspective as an approach which sees globalization as a new epoch in human history. This new epoch is characterized by the declining relevance and authority of nation-states, brought about largely through the economic logic of a global market. Economies are becoming “denationalized.” Held and his colleagues point out, however, that even within this perspective, different authors assess the value of these changes in very different…
art, its roots lie firmly in Western culture. Traditional Japanese artists would not have cared for painting low-class fishermen or nature, and would not have bothered with perspective. Hokusai resists such conventional Japanese methods, and instead seeks influence from Western Art. The fine, intricate details, wide perspective and composition juxtaposing ordinary humans with nature were concepts unfamiliar to Japanese artists, but very well-known to Western artists. Essentially, Hokusai’s ‘The Great…
Growth of Psychology Timeline Tiffany Zaremba Baker College Abstract Psychology has been an ever growing and changing practice. Though the term psychology mostly refers to a science; the concept has been around for many centuries. The human mind, understanding it, changing it, and controlling it has been an interest to many. Demographic Perspectives on Family Change The task of integrating family research needs to start with defining the family itself. Families consist of members with very different perspectives, needs, obligations, and resources. The characteristics of individual family members change over time—within life spans and across generations. Families exist in a broader economic, social, and cultural context that itself changes over time. United States households and families are undergoing unprecedented…

draw on power industries, like China and India, have. There are three perspectives at work with the increasing emissions and what the effects are: the first is the physical impact that emissions has on our economy such as on human life and on the environment; the second is using economic models, such as integrated assessment, to discern how the transition to low carbon will affect the economy as a whole; the third perspective is comparing the costs of an additional unit of carbon compared to the…
