Chalk the Block
Although a very unique event, chalk the block was full of chaos and entertainment to whom one should enjoy if going at the right time of day. The things I distinguished in the short period of time where, however, very grasping and indulging. The music, the drunks, the projection of the art on the walls and pavement, the parking spaces, led to my various critiques. The music was loud, of course. Different areas brought out different genres of music such as salsa, pop, electronic dance music, rock …etc. The sounds worked well, and generated good vibes within everyone present. Perhaps the only setback I have to the different types of music playing at once, is that you legit could not hear the person next to you. However, at an event like this one, the deafening music is expected. Now let’s go into the people and by people I mean the drunks. Maybe it was because I got to observe this site during the nighttime, were people like to go out to party, but there was a lot of drunks everywhere. Very nice dressed, no doubt about that, but the fact they were just a tad bit tipsy, made it very hard not to help notice the failed attempts they took to walk straight and keep balance. It was quite hilarious at first, ladies in heels breaking ankles, but trying not to spill their drinks. However, because of this particular reason, I’d say this event is not family friendly once the sun sets down. The projection of the art on the walls and pavement was exquisite, yet funky. The whole scenery was full of life and color, making every single detail on the streets, eye-popping. There were some paintings that left you in complete awe, and there were some that blew your mind away in a very odd way. The range of ideas displayed by these talented artists was shown completely through every single drawing. There were some areas where the images looked extremely realistic and 3D, which was pretty mind-blowing. Then there were areas that displayed the complete opposite, perhaps markings kids made maybe? Who knows, it was still a very formidable sight to see. The parking spaces…. well let’s just say they are not the easiest to find or the spots one typically enjoys searching for. The parking spaces weren’t very organized, which made one feel very frustrated. I assume because of the location Chalk the Block was held on, the downtown narrow streets and all the buildings surrounding the event made it extremely hard to move vehicles through.
