Due to John’s illness he is mostly a loner. He does not interact or have any contact with his family. John admits to having helped raise four children at one point in his life, but doubts he truly fathered any of them. John has no immediate family living other than his four children and ex-wife. John’s illness prevents him from being active in any peer groups, social groups, or sports groups. However, he has made friends to the best of his ability in the neighborhood where he resides on the streets. His closest friends are pigeons that he tends to and feeds on a daily basis. The friends that John has acquired in the neighborhood are owners of local businesses. One business owner lets him sleep in the doorway of his shop after they close and wakes John up in the morning when he opens. Another business owner lets John come in daily to type out a newsletter that John then distributes throughout the neighborhood. Other business owners periodically talk with John and view him as a strange, but friendly conversationalist.
