Carmen Tan Romeo and Juliet We read William Shakespeare's play, Romeo and Juliet, it is really the tragedy. In the play, many factors lead to the death of Romeo and Juliet, but I think it should to blamed Friar Laurence.He makes three mistakes that lead to Juliet's death or the tragedy happen. He help juliet and romeo secret marry.He gave a poison to Juliet. He trusted someone else with the important letter to deliver to Romeo. If he didn’t made these three major terrible mistakes, Juliet might not have killed herself, that Romeo and Juliet might not be died.
Friar Laurence’s help in the marriage of Romeo and Juliet has caused a tragedy. Romeo and Juliet thought that they fell in love, but the Friar Laurence should have known that they were just kids and they were really rushing into things. O,she kn ew well/ Thy love did read by rote that could not spell. But come, yound waverer,come go with me, In one respect I’ll thy assistant be; For this alliance may so happy prove To turn your households’ rancour to pure love(2.3 89-94).
The following quote said Romeo went to ask Friar Lawrence’ the holy man to marry them. At first, Friar Laurence was not agree because he knew their family are have conflict. But Friar Laurence belived that he was doing the right things, he believed that if he married for them he would be ending the conflict between two families. But he made the bad decision, he marriage make Romeo and Juliet more fall in love to each other, make the story develop more complicated.
Friar Lawrence made a main mistake was he terrible plan, that he trusted Juliet, an teenage girl, gave her a fake-death poison. The things like death to chide away this shame, That cop’st with death himself to scsape from it. And if thou dar’st.i’ll give thee remedy.(4.1 75-77)
This plan is very riskly, if the posion not work well, then Juliet will be real died. Also is very painful to juliet stay with the dead body in the tomb.Juliet’s mother Lady Capulet is even died by the plan. Friar Lawrence didn’t be responsible for his promise to give the letters to romeo. The following quote prove waht he was promise. Hold.Get you gone.Be strong and prosperous./In this resolve.I’ll send a friar with speed To mantua woth my ketters to thy lord.(4.1 123-126)
He wrote a letter to Romeo telling him about the plan. He sent the letter through Friar John, but he failed to tell Friar John of the content of the letter. The letter never reached Romeo because Friar John was locked up with the ill people. Romeo only received the news that Juliet has died.
