I plan to become a Computer and information systems manager. Computer and information systems managers, often called information technology (IT) managers or IT project managers, plan, coordinate, and direct computer-related activities in an organization. They help determine the information technology goals of an organization and are responsible for implementing computer systems to meet those goals. To educational requirements, most employers will only hire computer systems managers who have at least a bachelor’s degree with a computer science or information science major. Many others prefer employees who have earned a graduate degree, specifically a master’s degree in business administration (MBA) with technology as a core component. In addition to a degree, employers usually hire job candidates who have several years of experience working in information technology. Computer and information systems managers also need certain soft skills, or personal qualities, to succeed in this field. There is no professional exam required in order to become a Computer and information systems manager.

I will need to take class that involves learning about computer software like Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Publisher. The annual salary for someone with the job title Computer Systems Manager may vary depending on a number of factors including industry, company size, location, and years of experience and level of education. Salaries range from $83,284 to $184,274 with a median annual salary of $120,950(in 2012), according to Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most computer and information systems managers work full time. Many of them must work overtime to solve problems. Most computer and information systems managers start out as lower level managers and advance to higher positions within the IT department. IT directors or project managers can advance to become CTOs. A CTO or other manager who is especially business minded can advance to become a chief information officer (CIO); CIOs can advance to become top executives in an organization. The second positive aspect is high salary with the typical starting salary of $83,284. This is a good thing for people who want to follow this job. Two negative aspects of this career are that jobs are typically full time positions with overtime as needed and although few managers can work remotely, many have to supervise employees who work from home.
