Course Description

The course is designed to provide students with an introduction to short-term financial management in general and Treasury Management in particular. Moreover, the course provides an overview of the role of financial institutions and markets in the payments system while focusing on short-term asset/liability management.

Through web-enhanced discussions of the theory and practice of financial management as it applies to working capital, students should develop an understanding of the role and function of both short-term financial management and Treasury Management. Moreover, students should acquire a broad-based knowledge of financial markets and institutions, as well as an understanding of the U.S. payments system. This knowledge is important for a successful understanding of finance function.

Association for Financial Professionals (AFP)
(Formerly known as the Treasury Management Association (TMA))

This course is designed to expose students to the common body of knowledge in short-term financial management, in general, and Treasury Management, in particular, including the area of cash management. The course content is closely linked to material outlined in Essentials of Treasury Management published by the AFP (www.afponline.org).

AFP is a national organization in the field of Treasury Management that is involved in setting standards of knowledge for the profession. AFP offers a certification program in Treasury management, known as the Certified Treasury Professional (CTP). The CTP designation is awarded to individuals who pass the CTP exam and meet certain work experience requirements. The CTP exam is offered twice a year in the United States and abroad. There are more than 19,000 CTPs worldwide.

Because you are enrolled in this course, you are taking part in AFP’s Corporate Treasury Management Program. Participation in the program allows the students to sit for the CTP exam and earn the CTP credential. Under this program a student must earn a grade of B or better in order to be eligible to sit for the CTP exam without having prior treasury or cash management experience.
