Capital Punishment

Crime is everywhere. Wherever we look, we find criminals and crime. Criminals have become a part of our daily lives. Does this mean we let them be the darkness of our society? No definitely not! Eliminating crime and criminals is our duty, and we cannot ignore it. Getting the rightly accused to a just punishment is very important which is why I strongly believe that capital punishment should continue! Capital Punishment serves as a deterrent and helps in reducing crime, it assures safety of the society and it serves justice to the people who have suffered from the criminals careless actions.

Deterrence means to punish somebody to create fear and deter other people from offending. People abstain from dangerous acts because of preconscious fears. Crimes can be deterred only by making would-be criminals frightened of being arrested, convicted and punished. Somehow just imprisonment is not enough to stop people from committing a crime that is why Capital punishment is great as it is one of those extreme penalties that would create fear in the mind of any sane person and would make most criminals think twice if they knew they were putting their lives at stake. Capital Punishment should be there so that others, who even think about committing such crimes, learn that the consequences can be very harsh.

Criminals threaten the safety and welfare of the society. Only by putting savage criminals to death can society ensure that convicted criminals do not strike again, any lesser punishment would undermine the value society places on protecting lives. Overcrowding in prison has forced many prisons to release violent offenders before their time and they in turn have committed more crimes and ruined other peoples lives. Although capital punishment may not be the answer it will at least keep a violent prisoner from committing another crime against an innocent person. To me the rights of the innocent have to take precedence over the supposed rehabilitation of a convict.
