You ever get those moments when it occurs to you that you have been so busy trying to pacify everyone else, never stopping for a moment to figure out what makes you happy. Then you stop and think, can I be happy or am I meant to be at a place of settlement for contemptment. If you voice your concerns, you are labeled weak or even better weird. Weird...who makes the stipulation to what is weird and what is normal. If I do not act as you, or do not think as you do, I do not dress like you, I do not react as you, that makes me weird. When does the labels stop, when do we as a society, learn that it takes each and everyone of us to make this big world go around and if each and everyone of us take a good hard look at ourselves, we might just discover that in each of us lies a weird, scared, weak, broke, tattoo, earring wearing, narotic, fragile, freak and outcast. Some of us wear our feelings on the outside, while others hide it behind a smile. For example, look at that quarter back that while in school was mr. popular with the beauty queens for girlfriends but now 20 years later, drinks to much, has blown out knee's, a wife that never even acts as if he is alive and a career path that is no different than his neighbors or that fragile little girl that everyone picked on for being so timid and shy, because she didnt act like all the other girls. She gets casted to the side to walk through the journey of school and life alone because she wore to dark of make-up, black clothes or

She experiences name-calling because of her Korean name (which means “grace”). Her name is hard to pronounce and she begins to wonder if she should choose another name that is easier to pronounce. Her classmates help her by creating a “name jar” that…
created this image where we women are seen more as walking objects than as equal human beings. This idea is portrayed in many articles and books that we have read throughout this class, some of which have really hit home for me. Growing up as a white girl I have encountered numerous counts of sexism and fallen prey to many very judgmental stereotypes. It is never fun to be apart of these judgmental tendencies and the heart-wrenching thing is I haven’t even experienced half of what others in this world…
College is a lot different than high school. Many people enter college expecting to have a good time, learn new things, meet new people, and have a new sense of direction. They soon find out that college comes with many challenges and struggles. Many college students experience a great deal of stress, especially when they are trying to balance classes, job and social life. As students, we often find ourselves exhausted because there just does not seem to be enough time in the day. Putting in…
end results and what looks they had achieved on the block heads. I spoke to both candidates after this and gave them feedback of what I observed. I found giving feedback to Nicole was quite easy. I gave constructive feedback but making sure that it was positive. When I was giving Blossom feedback I found it a bit harder, I think this is because Blossom was older than me and I was aware that she was more sensitive. I was trying to focus on the positives but found it hard at first to be constructive…

heart-warming Philippa Crichton - President this year to have some of the youngest Old Girls and two of the oldest Old Girls in attendance. There were 29 Old Girls who were only 5 years out of school, and we were so privileged to host June Smith and Rosemary Atmore, who matriculated in 1939, 75 Years On. It was inspirational to see the tenacity of the 75 Years On ladies and the eagerness of the 5 Years On girls, showing us that, as an Old Roedeanian, you will always share a wonderful camaraderie and…

author gives us the most realistic view of Africa, and what effects do their writings really have? I will explore answers to my questions with the help of literary theories of realism and the sociology of literature. Building on these theories I will look for reference points in the two novels, Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart. I will also present some of the criticism that the authors have received for these novels. It will be interesting to see if the criticism is similar, but also to see why…
