One of the main factors which will influence my choice of leadership would be based on the level and needs of the team I supervise as they are they key variable determining the style.Another, primary factor would be my personality, as I would be comfortable with the style chosen and probably most successful and also my own beliefs.I strongly believe in teamwork and I would most likely adopt a Democratic Leadership style. This style requires the leader to participate with the team in solving problems together, involving employees in making decisions and setting the goals. It leads to a higher productivity, better communication and increases team morale. The team feel more engaged in the process, even though the leader retains the final say over decisions.
To gain feedback on my leadership I would be prepared to listen to their views either at a team meeting or one-to-one interviews, which are very powerful tools to hear others (For example,Jenna's supervisor doesn't listen and the workers are expected to do what they told, but she really might have a better idea how to produce the toys, which would result in less wastage. But this is the company procedures and it's going to be hard to get heard by autocratic supervisor). To develop as a leader I would have to concentrate on building trust and respecting the team, treat everyone equally but also encouraging them to show respect to each other.I would share information with the team whenever possible, try to encourage participation and develop communication skills. And lastly, praising those who are working hard and celebrating achievements.
Unit 2
I have identified two specific communication needs that I use on regular basis, with the focus on written communication via electronic mail (E-mail)system used by our company,as they are best suited short messages and oral communication in the form of individual meeting or face-to-face group meeting which can be very effective if well conducted.Within any organization communication is essential for a successful business to occur, but isn't that simple most of the time.It can be impaired by a number of factors. Some typical barriers to communication are:
-Distractions; overcoming is challenging but if we dedicate ourselves to active listening we will accomplish it
-Lack of message clarity or sending too much information to absorb; it can be difficult for the recipient to understand the content,if jargon used or some technical terms,or just too much information given at once.To overcome it ,we might ask clarifying questions and repeat ourselves to gain a full understanding.
-Time; communicating effectively takes time,if we share our thought or idea in a hurried manner, we will create misunderstanding,to avoid it we need to make communication priority as its the most powerful workplace tool
In addition, there are several more ways the managers might seek to improve the quality of communication, which include being serious about trying to avoid creating information overloads and adopting management styles that improve levels of trust.
The main purpose about communication is that there is some feedback,so that the sender knows that the receiver got message, understood it and acted upon it in some way.Ways to get feedback and check understanding include:
- Asking questions
-Reflecting and summarizing in our own words what we have heard
-Responding and asking further questions
-Watching for,and interpreting,non-verbal communication signals( facial expressions, gestures or eye contact).
Unit 3
