2. Boeing will outsource the security operation at many of its Puget Sound sites this fall, leaving about 64 of its uniformed guards facing layoff.
3. Security firm AlliedBarton will take over security at Boeing’s plants and office buildings in Renton, Auburn, Frederickson, Longacres and Bellevue.
4. All Boeing security guards are members of the Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA), a union whose current contract with the company includes a job protection guarantee to the 146 security guards hired before Nov. 22, 2006.
5. Those guards will retain their jobs with Boeing and will continue to provide security at the Everett plant and at the various Boeing sites on the Duwamish corridor in Seattle.
6. The remaining guards will receive layoff notices in October as security at other local sites transfers to AlliedBarton, said Boeing spokesman Dean Tougas.
7. “The expectation is that many of them will end up working for AlliedBarton or will at least have the opportunity to apply,” Tougas said.

15. The union workers, represented by Security, Police And Fire Professionals Of America, Local 5, also called SPFPA LOCAL 5, are on a contract that expires in 2017.
16. Only about 85 members of the union remain, whittled down by attrition from about 210 members a year ago, said Scott Harger, a business agent for the union. Boeing replaces the workers one by one as they leave the company payroll, either by retiring or by getting other jobs.
17. Harger said that while Boeing is adhering to the current contract, members aren’t happy to be pushed out.
18. “It’s peaceful on the surface, [but] our members are angry, they’re upset, they’re not happy, definitely not,” he said. “They’re
