Courtney LaPrairie English 101 Adam Milliet 8 December 2014 Good vs. Bad Being proposed with the question of what is good writing and what is bad writing threw me off guard. This question could be answered in many different ways, some simpler than others. Writing has little to do with skill, but more with perseverance and the person that it comes from. Simply put, good writers keep going while bad writers seem to quit at the sign of a road block. There is no real definition of what good writing…

as being ‘badly drawn cod-philosophical/fauxtribal/cloyingly sentimental illustrations’. He goes on to describe celebrities Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse as being ‘aspirational figureheads’ clearly employing sarcasm and in fact, most likely suggesting the exact opposite. We see the writer constantly give his, clearly, biased opinion about his dislike of tattoos, at one point simply referring to them as an ‘all-pain-no-gain, self-conflicted suffering. 2. Throughout the article, the writer…

Some questions to consider: o Does the writer seem trustworthy? o Does the writer seem knowledgeable and reasonable? o What comparisons does the writer make to other people, places, or events within the text to establish authority? For example, Dr. King’s “Letter from the Birmingham Jail” would be less effective if Dr. King had not experienced life as an African American male…
All good writers speak in honest voices and tell the truth.”(Macrorie 9). In the essay, the author talks about why some people cannot be a good writer. It is because of people forget how to tell the truth in their writings. Children usually speak and write honestly most of the time, but adults are just not quite familiar with writing honestly in their writings. “Part of growing up is learning to tell lies, big and little, sophisticated and crude, conscious and unconscious. The good writer differs…
works which was completed in 1910. What can be clearly seen in this poem is that writer used various literary devices such as simile, repetition, imagery and personification in order to put forth a doleful and sad theme to this piece. These literary devices were also effectively used to describe the character loneliness of J. Alfred Prufrock. One of the first literary devices used is simile. In the first stanza, the writer is inviting the readers to come and walk with Prufrock and gives the reader an…
