Basic Rules Quiz 1. 2 Pages are better than one a. This rule is to always design the pages as two pages rather than one. To apply this with mine, I would apply the same background to both pages of my spread because that way it would look nice and it would all have one design. I am doing the second and third pages of the baby pictures and the ads pages which for the ads pages, is pretty easy to design as two pages, because the background is just white, but I will design the baby pictures as two pages but also incorporate it with the first page of the baby pictures. 2. Don’t fence me in – but do use columns b. For this step I would work on not fencing in all the baby pictures but I would still use columns to give the spread a good, interesting design. 3. The shape of things to come c. First I would make sure that all of my baby pictures and ads are square or rectangle and not funny shapes. d. I will not include any shapes that do not fit in with the spread such as odd shapes or basically anything that isn’t a square or a rectangle. 4. Bigger and Better – start with a dominant photo e. It is hard for me to start with a dominant photo because I’m just doing baby pictures and ads pages, however; if I were to have a spread that needed a large dominant photo, I would make it so that it stood out to really give the spread life. 5. Center-gy f. For this rule, the object is to design from the center of the spread out, because when people open a yearbook, they look to the center more often than the outside corners. g. Because I’m doing ads pages and baby pictures, I can’t really design from the center out because the ads have a specific design that they need and the baby pictures are more of a profile picture type of page, it is difficult for me to apply this rule, but if I were to, I would design from the middle out, to make it stand out. For example I would put in like a picture in the middle area, so that it doesn’t cross the crease but still looks good, and then continue to design out from there with pictures, captions, and whatever else would be needed, without making
