Abortion is an issue that our country is very divided on, there are many arguments for and against abortion, which is considered to be the deliberate termination of one's pregnancy. This isn't simply an issue of what is right or wrong, abortion is one of the most intricate and sensitive topics our nation struggles with. Because of this sensitivity, our judicial system got involved, with the landmark abortion case, Roe v Wade (1973), which granted abortion as a fundamental right, but allowed the states to interfere based on health concerns. The United States Supreme Court ruled 7–2 in the case Roe v Wade that, there was a right to privacy under the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment, meaning that women seeking an abortion had the right Who pays for abortion clinics and how do they keep their funding? According to Planned Parenthood, “At least 60% of Planned Parenthood patients rely on public health programs like Medicaid and Title X for their preventive and primary care.” These organizations are funded by the federal government. Although it is important to understand that this money does not come from federal tax dollars, there is a law that prohibits this. Most of the funds come from reimbursements through Medicaid, the government-funded health insurance plan for people with low incomes. Many individuals argue that abortions should not be paid for by the government at all, but rather by the individual in need of one. Others rebuttal this with the argument that having an abortion is in one's fundamental rights after the Roe v. Wade ruling, and one's health insurance should cover the cost. In disallowing many state and federal restrictions on abortion in the United States, Roe v. Wade prompted a national debate that continues today about issues including whether, and to what extent, abortion should be legal, who should decide the legality of abortion, what methods the Supreme Court should use in constitutional adjudication, and what the role should be of religious and moral views in the political sphere. Roe v. Wade reshaped

The majority of arguments about abortion do come down to the moral status of a fetus, but not all. The typical arguments associated to abortion reflect the ongoing struggle to define the issue based on the rights of a fetus. This paper however, will look at extreme arguments, pros and cons, which are not based on morality of the fetus and will define these arguments as they relate to ethical theories. These non-typical arguments include: pregnant women’s health, legalism, religious objections…
For my topic I am choosing to write about the ethical importance of abortion. There have been many arguments as to whether abortion should be kept legal or mad illegal. There are many ways that abortion is looked at to be against morality. Abortion goes against morality because it is considered murder and goes against the word of God. It has been clearly stated that a life begins at conception, with that being said abortion is considered murder. He or she starts out as a fetus but well before…
what would you say if the government put a law against sex before marriage? We would all crowd the streets and protest waving banners saying “It’s my body, it’s my choice” So why aren’t we crowding the streets with those same banners for abortion. It’s the mother’s body, so shouldn’t it be her choice? Abortion is when a mother has surgery to get the fetus removed from her. Abortion is often met with the right to life argument. The right to life argument states that anything living has the natural born…
Abortion A. Jonathan Glover, in his article Matters of Life and Death casts dispersions on both pro-abortion and anti-abortion debates citing them as too knee-jerk emotional reactions diminishing the inherent complexity of the other side (1. Glover, CC2006, p. 0110). Glover comprehensively addresses the key points of both sides of the abortion debate and evaluates their inherent virtues, especially for those who hold these opinions, then methodically points out its flaws. Ultimately, Glover comes…
In this paper I will discuss the great moral dilemma of committing an abortion. This issue of whether having an abortion is morally justified has been very controversial to many people for a long time, and still continues to be one today. As a context to this argument we are given a story of Mrs. Adams and her husband who decided to have an abortion after a contraceptive method went wrong. After forgetting to take her contraceptive pill one night Mrs. Adams ends up getting pregnant, and because…
Should all abortion be illegal, even in cases of rape or incest? Abortion is a term the average American has heard at least once in their regular day lives. Whether one learns about it in a school lecture, passing by an abortion clinic, or more recently, hearing it in the presidential debates, it is one of the most highly debated topics of our century. This debate is not just a religious and moral issue; it also carries undertones of law, health, and economics. According to the definition of abortion…

“A Defense of Abortion” Premise Judith Jarvis Thomson attempts to defend the issues of apportion. She begins by explaining her basic argument that the premise of a human embryo is in fact a person. She defends this statement by stating that by the tenth week of pregnancy, the baby already has its major functions of the body. However, no one can argue accurately that it can be concluded that all abortion is morally wrong. She believes that a clump of cells is "no more a human then an Oak tree". Her…
four days before they found her propped against a tree in the woods. She had died after attempting to abort an unwanted pregnancy that she had managed to hide from everybody who knew her by sticking a wire coat hanger into her uterus. Busi was my cousin and she was one of the many women around the world who have died after attempting to perform abortions that are not legal in their places of residence for a variety of reasons. There are many reasons why abortion is frowned upon by many societies in…
