On February 2010 the Animal Welfare Act was revised and enforced in order to protect animals from cruelty, unauthorized testing, selling and transporting. Although the federal law strictly annotates the dos and don’ts on animal testing, it does provide many exceptions for most of their laws. During the past years many companies have been scrutinized by testing beauty products and experimental drugs on animals. Although, much controversy has plagued many it is necessary to see the reality and necessity behind such doings. According to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) “more than 100 million animals every year suffer and die in cruel…medical experiments.” The unfortunate truth is that, yes animals do suffer and at times they are exposed to questionable practices. However, these same animals that PETA speaks of have saved the lives of millions of people. For instance, insulin, vaccines, antibiotics and an array of treatments for life threatening illnesses have been tested on laboratory animals. Animals and humans share a common ground as lifestyle factors are able predispose numerous diseases. In order to test the effectiveness and potential dangers of insulin before it is released to the public; laboratories are inclined to test on an animal that has been specifically raised for such conditions instead of a human being. Therefore, the animal becomes overweight as most people with type 2 diabetes are prone to be overweight.
