Human history would not have progressed without the many contributions of ancient empires. The Guptas, the Mauryans, Romans, Incans, Songs, Dongs, and the Greeks all molded civilization as we know it. Two of the largest empires in India from 321 B.C.E to 550 A.D were the Guptas and the Mauryans. The Mauryans had an emperor name Chandragupta, and he was a harsh leader. But his grandson Asoka led the empire into prosperity. During this Golden Age, they gave us many basic forms of life that have evolved into more modern things, such as hospitals, roads, schools and a set of basic laws across India. The Guptan Empire was much more prosperous than the Mauryans. The Guptas organized a strong government and had the villages and cities get a say in the government. They mad advances in the math and science field. They made the basic decimal and number system we use today as well as making a vaccine for smallpox. They also gave us the idea of plastic surgery and advances in architecture. The Roman and Greek empires were 2 of the most successful civilizations ever. They both went through a Golden Age and made many contributions to society. The Greek empire gave us many things in their time. They gave us democracy, which is the type of government we use in America today. They also gave us the basic form of the alphabet, which means that basically every word in the English language originated from Greece. One of the most important Greek contributions is there architecture. Almost all of the federal buildings in Washington D.C look nearly identical to the Greek and Roman buildings. The Romans on the other hand were very similar to the Greeks, but they had their own twist on it. The Romans gave us one of the most helpful inventions ever, because without it, people wouldn’t have been able to get water to their crops. Romans made aqueducts which transported water long distances to farmers who needed it. Another Roman contribution that is still used today is their code of law. The Romans gave us the 5 basic principles that formed our court system.
1) People are all equal under the law
2) A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty
3) The accused can face accusers and defend against the charge
4) Guilt must be clearly
