Social Networking
Are social networking sites good for our society? Forty­seven percent of American adults used social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com in
2011, up from twenty­six percent in 2008.On social media sites like these, users may develop biographical profiles, communicate with friends and strangers, do research, and share thoughts, photos, music, links, and more. Social networking is, in fact, a great thing for our society. Things that make social networking good for our society is that they can spread information faster than any other media, law enforcement uses social networking to catch and prosecute criminals, helps students do better at school, and social networking also helps boost the economy.
Did you know that social networking sites are a top news source for 27.8% of Americans, ranking below newspapers (28.8%)? Over fifty percent of people learn about breaking news from social media. Although some people say that 48.1% of people have heard false news via social media. If people are using social networking, correctly and safely, things like that would never happen.. Especially if our society would do some research to see if what they are hearing is really true.
Law Enforcement uses social networking sites to catch and prosecute criminals.
According to ProCon.org, sixty­seven percent of federal, state, and local law enforcement professionals surveyed think that social media helps solve crimes more quickly. In 2011, the

New York Police Department (NYPD) added a twitter tracking unit and has used social networking to arrest criminals who brag of their crimes online.
Social networking helps students do better at school work. Fifty­nine percent of students with access to the internet, report that they use social networking sites to discuss educational topics. Also fifty percent use these sites to talk about school assignments. According to George
