Prop 62, otherwise known as the Personhood Amendment is, on the surface a sweet thought that all babies should have rights and that abortion should be banned. The Yes on 62 logo shows an outline of a baby in the womb inside a red heart and a terribly forceful call to all Christians, the bible verse Jeremiah 1:5 that quotes God himself: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” But when you delve into what prop 62 will actually impose the response is usually shock and disbelief. Prop 62 will ban all abortions, with no exceptions for rape, incest, or to save the pregnant woman's life; prohibit stem cell research; restrict any healthcare to the mother that may endanger the fetus, such as chemotherapy; criminalize miscarriage, meaning that if a pregnant woman fell down a flight of stairs and lost her baby it would be investigated as a homicide (which has already happened in Iowa); create a legal nightmare, 20,000 state and local statutes, complicating property rights, inheritance rights; and even outlaw birth control other than "barrier methods," as hormonal/device birth control can prevent the implantation of an egg.
