Schizophrenia is a psychotic disorder where a person loses contact with the environment, they will have noticeable deterioration in their everyday life, and they may have delusions and hallucinations or withdraw into their own private world. A person with schizophrenia may have been able to function well; they may deteriorate into isolation, unreal perceptions and have very disturbed thoughts and emotions they can also have unusual motor behavior. People who develop schizophrenia experience psychosis in which is a loss of contact with reality. Their ability to recognize and respond to the things around them they become so disturbed that it could cause them not to be able to function at home, with their friends, in school, or at work.

The downward drift theory is when people get schizophrenia it can cause them to fall from higher to lower socioeconomic level or to remain poor because they are unable to function effectively.
