Cuban Missile Crisis- Also known as the October Crisis. A 13 day confrontation between the U.S. and the Soviet Union over Soviet Ballistic missile deployed in Cuba. It was the closets the civil war came to a full-scale nuclear war.

C.O.R.E- the Congress of Racial Equality is a U.S. Civil rights organization that played a pivotal role for African Americans in the Civil Rights Movement. Founded in 1942, CORE was one of the “Big Four” Civil rights organizations, along with the SCLC, the SNCC, and the NAACP.

Environmental movement- (sometimes called the Ecology movement), also including conservation, and green politics. It is a diverse scientific, political, and social movement for addressing environmental problems.

The Tet Offensive- was North Vietnamese and Viet Con forces that had a coordinated series of fierce attacks. In South Vietnam, 100 cities and towns would be attacked. The Tet Offensive was turning point in the Vietnam War and the Americans had a slow painful withdraw from the region.

Voting Rights in the 1960’s- It was signed into law in 1965 that blacks had the right to vote. The march of Selma driven by Martin Luther King Jr happened five days before this legislation and was the main movement Voting Rights.

Assassination 1960’s- Malcolm-X- was assassination on February 21, 1965 by members of Nation of Islam in New York.

Martin Luther king- Was assignation on April 4, 1968 by James earl Ray in Memphis Tennessee.

Robert F. Kennedy- was assassinated on June 5, 1968 by Sirhan Sirhan in Los Angeles California.

John F. Kennedy- was assassinated on November 22, 1963 while in his open convertible car riding in a motorcade through dealey plaza in Dallas. By Lee Harvey Oswald.

Selma Marches- Three Selma to Montgomery march in 1965 were part of the Selma voting rights movement and led to the passage that year of the voting Rights Act. Activist publicized the three protest marches to walk the 54 miles highway from Selma to Alabama state capital of Montgomery Selma maintained segregated schools and other faculties. Coordinating committee (SNCC) began organizing in Selma alongside local civil rights leaders Sam, Amelia, and Bruce Boynton.

George Wallace- was one of the Americas most outspoken supporters of racial segregation in the 60’s. He fought integration and standing front of the doorway of the University of Alabama to block two black Students from enrolling there. Then in the 80’s he recanted his earlier racial views and sought reconciliation with black leaders.
